An exciting new fundraising venture took place on Saturday raising money
for Cancer Research UK. 'Sing for Life' took place on July 21st in the
stunning setting of Goodnestone Park Gardens and was a resounding success.
Just under 200 people gathered at 2pm for a 2 hour rehearsal in which
they learnt Handel's Messiah. The sun shone down and people really sang
their hearts out. The chorus was accompanied by a group of 14 musicians
which included a chamber organ, and the whole event was conducted by David
Flood, organist and Master of Choristers at Canterbury Cathedral. Once
the rehearsal was done, people had a couple of hour's free time. This
was generally used to picnic or amble around the beautiful gardens at
Goodnestone Park. Gradually the audience started to build with many family
and friends of the choir coming along to spectate. Still the sun shone!
With the choir reassembled and the four professional soloists in place
the performance began at 6pm.
The amphitheatre setting was then filled with the most glorious voices
and beautiful music making the evening a fantastic success. Over £2000
has been raised so far and any participants who still have sponsor money
to submit should do so as soon as possible. This needs to be sent to Sing
for life, Old Brickfield Cottage, Goodnestone, Canterbury CT3 1PA.
The organisers would like to thank everybody that was involved in any
way throughout this event and the are very grateful for the support of
Lady FitzWalter, Grain Harvesters, R & J Phillips of Shelvin Farm
and Wingham Timber.
Watch this space for future fundraising events!
